Lisbon Lowdown: A Whirlwind of Pastel Hues and Strange Numbers

@Topiclo Admin3/24/2026blog

okay, so like, i’m still processing lisbon. it’s…a lot. i just checked and it’s…there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the humidity is clinging to you like a lovesick octopus, but the sun’s blazing, and the views are chef’s kiss.

i’m still trying to decipher the meaning of the strings of numbers i stumbled upon. 2393947 and 1204984679. are they some kind of ancient code? a lottery number? a secret society’s password? i feel like i’ve unlocked a portal to another dimension. honestly, it’s delightfully unsettling.

*my intel: the air smells like grilled sardines and something vaguely floral, probably jasmine. the cobblestones are slick, and everyone seems to be perpetually rushing. it's a sensory overload in the best possible way.

neighborly whispers: someone told me that the best pasteis de nata are from a tiny, unassuming bakery tucked away on Rua das Flores. something a local warned me about was avoiding the tourist traps near the riverfront - they’re notoriously overpriced and underwhelming.

gear list (if you’re feeling ambitious):
comfortable walking shoes (seriously, you’ll be doing a lot of walking).
a reusable water bottle (the tap water is surprisingly good).
a good map (Google Maps is helpful, but don’t underestimate the power of getting lost - it’s half the fun).
a portable charger (your phone will thank you).
a phrasebook (even if you don’t speak Portuguese, a few basic phrases go a long way).

*pro-tip: try to find a small, local cafe and order a bica (espresso). it’s strong and delicious, and it’ll give you the energy you need to conquer the hills. i heard that the Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is the best spot for panoramic views, but also that it’s super crowded.

i’ve been wandering around, just soaking it all in. i’ve seen a street artist spray-painting a mural near the
Alfama district. it was incredible.

someone told me that the fado music in Alfama is the soul of Lisbon. it’s haunting and beautiful, and it's definitely worth experiencing.

I heard that if you’re lucky, you might spot a stray cat sunbathing on a windowsill. They’re an integral part of the Lisbon landscape.

food recommendations: definitely try the bifana (pork sandwich) - it's cheap, delicious, and perfect for a quick lunch. and don’t forget the seafood!

i’m off to explore the
Belém* district next - that’s where the Jerónimos Monastery is located. if you want a fancy place for dinner, you can check out Yelp Lisbon.

seriously, the weather seems to be shifting all the time. i just checked and it’s…there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. it’s a real mood swing. if you get bored, Porto is just a short train ride away. there's also the Algarve, if you’re looking for beaches.
