Buenos Aires Blues & Humidity: A Totally Unhinged Getaway

okay, so where do i even start with *Buenos Aires? i’m still processing. i landed late, and the air… seriously, the air. it’s thick. like, you can almost taste the humidity. i just checked and it’s… a sauna out there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the numbers i saw were 1019760 and 1710328253 - honestly, who even cares? it just felt… intense.

this trip was supposed to be a quick recharge. needed a break from the endless spreadsheets and soul-crushing presentations (bless my spirit). i’m a disillusioned consultant by trade, which basically means i spend my days making other people's problems sound more urgent. ugh. i booked a last-minute flight, figuring ‘what’s the worst that could happen?’ (spoiler alert: a lot).

first impression? chaos. beautiful, vibrant chaos. the streets hum with a frantic energy. street art explodes from every corner - seriously, the murals are insane. i spent a solid hour just wandering around
La Boca, trying to capture the colors.

my tiny Airbnb was… an experience. let’s just say the check-in process involved a lot of gesturing and very little English. but hey, it had character! lots of mismatched furniture and a view of a wall.
Palermo is where i ended up spending most of my days. found some killer cafes and spent way too much time people-watching. i heard that the best empanadas are hidden in the back alleys - someone told me that… a local warned me to be careful of pickpockets, though, which is always good advice. i also accidentally wandered into a tango practice - it was mesmerizing. completely lost, but totally captivated.

food? oh god, the food. i’m pretty sure i consumed my weight in medialunas (those flaky pastries - seriously addictive). and the steaks… don’t even get me started. i tried to find a good vegan option, but it was tough. ended up relying heavily on fruit and avocados (thankfully plentiful). i'm considering checking out TripAdvisor for some more recommendations later.

neighbors are… well, present. usually just the sound of music and laughter drifting up from the apartments. if you get bored,
Rio de Janeiro is just a short drive away. there's a certain… resilience here. a way of making the most of everything. i even saw a guy playing the accordion on the street corner - pure magic. apparently, the best time to visit is during springtime, but i figured a little humidity wouldn't hurt.

“Don’t trust anyone who doesn’t love steak.” - overheard at a cafe. Seriously.

apparently the airport taxis are notoriously overpriced, so i’m looking into pre-booking something like Yelp suggests. also, i think someone told me not to accept drinks from strangers - just a general vibe i picked up on. (safety first, people!). i also found a cool vintage shop near
Recoleta* - definitely worth checking out if you're into that sort of thing. they have a really great selection of old leather jackets, if that’s your thing.

leaving tomorrow. feeling… strangely content. maybe it’s just the sugar rush from all the medialunas. maybe it’s the chaos. maybe it’s just the humidity getting to my brain. either way, buenos aires, you were… something. definitely a place i’ll be dreaming about for a while. i found this article about Lonely Planet that had some great insights, if you wanna dive deeper. i'm definitely planning a return trip.

and seriously, pack light. you'll thank me later.
