Győr: A Random Stop That Somehow Became My Favorite

i landed in győr by accident-missed my train in budapest and ended up here with a backpack, no plan, and 12.84°c of chilly confusion. the air felt crisp, almost like the city itself was giving me a cold shoulder until i figured out what it wanted from me. locals later told me it's usually more humid, but that day the humidity was just 31%, so my hair actually cooperated for once.

walking through the old town felt like stepping into a movie set where someone forgot to yell "cut." baroque buildings leaned in like they had secrets, and the promise of thermal baths somewhere nearby kept me moving. i heard from a barista-who might've been flirting, hard to tell-that the baths are the real deal if you're into slow, steamy afternoons. she also warned me the coffee at the train station kiosk is a crime against caffeine, so i took her word for it and headed to café páva instead.

that evening, i followed the sound of accordion music to a tiny square where a guy in a leather jacket was playing something that sounded like hungarian blues. someone else told me győr's nightlife is either dead quiet or unexpectedly wild, and based on that night, i believe it. the bar i picked had a dog that-no joke-ordered me a shot by staring at the bartender. i didn't argue.

if you get bored, bratislava and vienna are just a short drive away, but honestly? i didn't want to leave. the weather stayed cool, the streets stayed confusing in the best way, and the only thing i regretted was not bringing a better jacket.
