Lisbon's a Blur: Rain, Pastel Walls, and Seriously Strong Coffee
okay, so i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and the sheer force of caffeine. i landed in lisbon yesterday, and honestly, it’s… a lot. like, a beautiful, chaotic, slightly damp lot. the air’s thick with the smell of salt and something vaguely floral - maybe jasmine? it’s 12.09 and feels like 10.53, temp min 12, max 13.43. pressure’s 1021, humidity’s 45, sea level’s 1021, ground level’s 1011. yeah, i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.
my flight was delayed, naturally. and then i spent an hour trying to decipher the metro system - seriously, it’s like a labyrinth designed by a sadist. but then i found this tiny cafe, ‘pastel dreams,’ and ordered a bica (espresso) that could probably jumpstart a small car. it was dark, intense, and exactly what i needed.
i’m staying in Alfama, which is… intense. it’s all cobbled streets and crumbling buildings, and the sound of fado music spills out from every doorway. it’s like stepping back in time, but with more scooters. i overheard some guys at the bar talking about a hidden courtyard with a fountain - someone told me that’s where the best ginjinha (cherry liqueur) is served. i’m on the hunt.
i spent the afternoon wandering around the *Baixa district, just getting lost. it’s all wide avenues and grand squares, a stark contrast to Alfama. i checked out the Praça do Comércio, overlooking the Tagus River. it’s massive, and there were loads of tourists, but it still felt… genuine. i found this amazing little shop selling vintage scarves - seriously, the colors were insane. i almost bought everything.

i heard that the seafood is incredible here. i’m planning on hitting up Time Out Market Lisboa tomorrow - apparently, it’s where all the chefs in the city come to show off their skills. i heard that the bacalhau (salted cod) is legendary. i’m also checking Yelp for some hidden gems. https://www.yelp.com/map

i’m seriously considering getting a pastel de nata addiction. i saw a lady selling them on the street, and they looked divine*. i’m also trying to find a good coffee shop - i need to fuel my exploration. i’m looking for a place with a good atmosphere and strong espresso. i’m checking out Google Maps for some recommendations.
i’m exhausted, but i’m also buzzing. lisbon is a sensory overload, but it’s a good kind of overload. it’s messy, it’s vibrant, and it’s utterly captivating.
