Tver: Where the Coffee's Strong and the Streets Have Secrets

woke up in tver with a weird number in my head: 476077. no idea what it means. maybe a locker code? maybe the universe trying to tell me something. either way, i'm here and the weather's doing that annoying thing where it feels colder than it looks. checked the forecast-5°c but feels like 2°c. basically, gloves are mandatory and your nose will probably run the whole time. i just checked and it's... brisk right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

first stop: coffee. not just any coffee-i'm talking about the kind that makes you question every other cup you've ever had. found this little spot called *kofein tucked between two old wooden houses. the barista had tattoos and didn't smile once, which i respect. someone told me that their pour-over is the best in town, but also that their wifi is a lie. fair trade-off, i guess.

wandered over to the
tver state university area because i heard rumors about a hidden courtyard with street art. and yeah, it's real. there's this massive mural of a bear wearing a crown, and i have no idea what it means, but it felt important. overheard a group of students saying it's a protest piece. or maybe it's just art. who knows.

if you get bored,
moscow and saint petersburg are just a short drive away, but honestly? don't rush. tver's got its own rhythm. slow, a little grumpy, but honest.

walking along the
volga river was a vibe. the water looked like it had secrets. someone said there's a legend about a ghost ship that appears during fog. i didn't see it, but i stayed until it got dark anyway. the kind of place where you start believing in stories.

food-wise, i hit up
stolovaya 57 because a drunk guy at the bar the night before wouldn't stop talking about their borscht. he was right. it's the kind of soup that hugs your insides. also tried pelmeni somewhere else-can't remember the name, but it had a cat sleeping on the windowsill. that's how you know it's good.

random tip: bring cash. a lot of places don't take cards, and the atm near the train station eats your money sometimes. someone warned me about that after i lost 50 bucks to a machine that just laughed at me.

stayed at this weird little guesthouse called
domik na krasnoy. no sign, just a red door. the owner speaks zero english but makes the best blini i've ever had. also, the shower is in the kitchen, which is... an experience.

tver* isn't trying to be cool. it just is. a little rough around the edges, a little magical if you look close enough. and yeah, the weather sucks, but so does everywhere in winter. layer up, bring a book, and let the city tell you its stories.
