Tenerife: Chasing Sunsets and Street Tacos

woke up at 2pm today, still half-drunk from last night's dive bar crawl in santa cruz. the air smells like salt and regret, and i'm pretty sure my shoes are still wet from the beach. it's 14.4°c out there, which feels more like 13.28°c with the wind cutting through my thrift-store jacket. perfect weather for wandering without a plan, right?

i stumbled into this tiny taco stand near plaza del chicharro. no name, just a guy flipping tortillas like he's auditioning for a cooking show. someone told me that the best food in tenerife isn't in the fancy restaurants-it's in these nameless spots where the salsa is so hot it'll make you question your life choices. and they weren't wrong. i'm still sweating.

if you get bored, la laguna and puerto de la cruz are just a short drive away. but honestly, why leave? the streets here are a mess of color, stray cats, and murals that look like they were painted by someone who stayed up all night on energy drinks.

i heard from a barista that the coffee at *café lisboa is the only thing that'll cure your hangover. she said it with the kind of certainty that makes you believe her, so i went. it's true. the espresso there is like a slap in the face from a very loving, very caffeinated friend.

a view of a city and the ocean from a hill

and the sunsets? don't even get me started. i watched one from a cliff near
playa de las teresitas*. the sky turned into a bruise of purples and oranges, and i swear i saw a dolphin jump just to show off. or maybe it was a seagull. either way, it was magical.

check out tripadvisor for more hidden gems, or just wander until you find something that makes you stop and stare. that's the real tenerife.

the sun is setting over a city with palm trees

i'm already planning my next trip back. maybe i'll stay longer this time. maybe i'll even learn to surf. or maybe i'll just keep eating tacos and pretending i know what i'm doing.

red building and trees

for now, i'm off to find another dive bar. or maybe just a quiet spot to watch the waves. either way, tenerife's got me hooked.
