san miguel de allende through a digital nomad's lens: archways, wifi, and why my cat’s judging me

@Sophia Berg3/12/2026blog

"damn, it’s already 77° here, feels like forgetting to close your blinds on a midday wave. i’m chillin’ on the third floor of café daybreak, laptop mic’d up for that sacred jungle ambiance. wifi’s solid enough, but the old man next door blasts mariachi through his speakers at 6am-"you hear that, buddy? that’s how you wake up to heaven!" sarcasm alert. honestly, i’m amazed the coffee’s not free. sold some photos of beta for the b&b yesterday; they wanted a 1000 peso retainer for grid shots. artists here are weird. maybe i should’ve brought my vintage lens cleaner instead of 10 usd worth of avocado toast compliments.

local tip: wander down carrer amarillo. that little taqueria with the mural? abuelita’ll stuff your face if you mention the mural’s paint’s chipping. she’s got a grudge against gentrification or something. doesn’t matter-the guacamole’s worth it. she’s got a 20-yr-old grudge against gentrification.

i overheard two gringos arguing about scorpion tequila. one’s a methane-powered drone guy, the other a retired economist. they’d rather fight than ask for ketchup at el cairán. ridiculous. the city’s got bones-literally. walked up to el calvario church and realized i’d literally 'escaped' from this same square 10 years ago. time’s weird.

embedded a hungry planet map so you can find abuse judgments or whatever. street artists abandoned their murals here. one guy’s rotoscoping saints with alligator necks.
today’s weather: 23.5c. feels like a forgotten apocalypse. stay weird.*
