San Francisco Static: Lost in the Fog and the Beat

okay, so, i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and lukewarm coffee. 5406990 and 1840021531 - don’t ask. it’s just… a thing. i landed in san francisco yesterday and honestly, it’s like stepping into a slightly blurry, perpetually damp dream. the air is thick, you know? like, you can almost taste the salt and the rain. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the pressure is 1017, humidity’s hovering around 48 - feels like 26.04 and 27.65, which is basically a perfect, slightly unsettling temperature for contemplating the futility of existence.

I’m staying in a place called ‘The Rusty Sprocket’ - it’s basically a converted garage in the Mission District. the walls are covered in vintage band posters and the owner, a guy named Silas, plays a mean harmonica. he told me someone told him that the best sourdough in the city is at Tartine Bakery, but i’m skeptical. i’ve heard rumors.

Spent the afternoon wandering around Fisherman’s Wharf, dodging selfie sticks and overpriced clam chowder. it’s… a lot. the sea lions are aggressively charming, let me tell you. they’re practically begging for attention. i almost bought a ridiculously small stuffed sea lion. almost.

Then i stumbled into a street art show in the Tenderloin. seriously, the murals are insane. like, full-blown, spray-painted chaos. it’s a beautiful mess. i’m trying to capture it all with my camera, but it’s hard to get the feel of it. it’s like trying to bottle lightning.

Here’s the gear list, because someone always asks:

Camera (obviously) - a battered Canon AE-1 - it’s seen better days, but it still spits out magic.
Notebook and pens - gotta scribble down the weirdness.
Portable charger - because my phone dies faster than my enthusiasm.
Rain jacket - duh.
A healthy dose of cynicism.

I overheard a group of tourists arguing about whether Alcatraz was worth the hype. one of them said, and i quote, ‘it’s just a rock with a bunch of old cells.’ someone else countered with, ‘it’s a
legendary rock!’ honestly, i just wanted a burrito. i found a place called La Taqueria - it’s a no-frills joint, but the carne asada is legit. i heard that they don’t even have* salsa. wild.

Speaking of locals, if you get bored, Oakland is just a short drive away. there’s a whole other vibe going on over there. it’s… grittier, maybe? less polished. i’m thinking of checking out the murals in the Fruitvale district tomorrow.

I’m also trying to track down some vintage clothing. i’m on the hunt for a cool denim jacket and maybe a band t-shirt. i’m hitting up some of the thrift stores on Haight Street.

Seriously, the fog here is something else. it rolls in and just… swallows everything. it’s beautiful and unsettling at the same time. it makes you feel small, you know? like a tiny speck in a giant, damp universe.

I’m heading to a dive bar called The Alembic later - supposedly they have a killer cocktail menu. i’m hoping for something strong and vaguely mysterious. i heard that the bartender, a woman named Delilah, is a bit of a character. she’s got a tattoo of a badger on her arm and a penchant for telling tall tales.

Anyway, that’s where i’m at. feeling a little lost, a little wired, and a whole lot inspired. check out this TripAdvisor page for some more recommendations: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g33837-Activities-San_Francisco_California.html
