pretoria: broke student edition

just back from pretoria and my wallet’s still shaking in relief. this city’s basically built for people who think ramen is gourmet. first things, the weather: peeked at my phone and it’s this sticky 22-degree soup out there, feels like breathing through a wet sock. if that’s your jam, you’ll love it.

if you run out of things to stare at, *johannesburg is basically a nap away in an Uber. catch that vibe.

the real secret sauce?
tshwane university of technology has free art exhibits every tuesday that’ll blow your student loan away. heard from a rando at the sunnyside flea market that the village museum gives free entry if you flash a student id like you mean it. sketchy? maybe. effective? absolutely.

pro move:
church square has benches where you can pretend to study while people-watching for hours. someone swore the union building has this insane view if you sneak into the library-just don’t get caught.

food-wise?
maboneng precinct has R30 bunny chow that’ll make you question why you ever paid for takeout. but i heard the market on main shuts down at 3pm so sprint if you’re late.

student deals in pretoria hostel hacks free walking tours

bottom line: pretoria’s your playground if you’re cool with being broke. just don’t trust that guy selling ‘authentic’
springbok jerseys* from his backpack.
