Patna Diaries: Chaos, Chai, and Chasing the Ganges

patna-where the ganges whispers secrets and the traffic screams back. i landed here after that weird number sequence 1256698 flashed on my phone (probably just a glitch, right?). but hey, the city didn’t care about my existential crisis. it just kept moving, honking, and serving chai at every corner. if you’re the type who needs order, this place will mess with your head. but if you’re me-a freelance photographer always chasing the imperfect shot-patna’s your playground.

i just checked and it’s 22.33°c there right now, feels like 22.19°c. not too hot, not too cold. just enough to make you sweat while haggling for a rickshaw ride. speaking of which, *rickshaws here are like the unofficial mayors of the city. they know every alley, every shortcut, and every chai stall worth visiting.

now, let’s talk about the
ganges. i mean, how could i not? i spent an evening by the riverbank, watching the sun dip into the water like it was tired of the day’s chaos. someone told me that the best time to visit is during sunrise, when the river feels almost sacred. but honestly? sunset worked for me. less crowd, more drama.

if you get bored,
kolkata and varanasi are just a short drive away. but why would you leave patna? not when you can eat litti chokha at a roadside stall and pretend you’re a local. i heard that the best litti chokha is at Shyam Sweets, but don’t quote me on that. i might’ve been distracted by the smell of fried samosas at the time.

mahabodhi temple is another story. it’s like stepping into a different world-quiet, serene, and somehow untouched by the city’s madness. i overheard a monk say that the temple’s energy can heal anything. i’m not spiritual, but i’ll take his word for it.

and then there’s the
patna museum. i went there because a drunk guy at a bar said it was haunted. turns out, it’s just full of old artifacts and dusty stories. but hey, i got some great shots of the ancient sculptures. so, not a total waste.

if you’re planning to visit, here’s a tip:
book your stay on TripAdvisor. i stayed at a place called Hotel Gargee Grand, and it was surprisingly decent. not luxurious, but clean and close to everything.

patna’s not for everyone. it’s loud, it’s messy, and it doesn’t apologize for either. but if you’re like me-someone who thrives on chaos and loves a good story-you’ll find yourself falling for it. just don’t forget to bring your camera. and maybe a sense of humor.

oh, and one last thing:
check out Patna Tourism* for more ideas on what to do. but honestly? just wander. the best stories are always off the beaten path.
