Kyoto Chaos: Noodles, Ghosts, and Seriously Weird Rain

okay, so, i’m pretty sure i’m running on caffeine and the sheer weirdness of this place. 1861749 and 1392390581… honestly, i don’t even know what that means, but it’s stuck in my head now. the humidity is clinging to me like a damp towel - 44% and feeling like 2.93, according to my wrist thingy. the pressure’s a solid 1023, which is…fine, i guess? it’s 1015 ground level, which is just…normal, i think. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

Kyoto. it’s like stepping into a watercolor painting that’s been left out in the rain for a week. beautiful, but unsettling. i’m staying in this tiny guesthouse near Gion - it smells faintly of incense and something vaguely floral, like grandma’s attic. the walls are paper-thin, so i’m basically eavesdropping on everyone’s conversations. if you get bored, Osaka is just a short drive away, apparently. someone told me that the ramen here is legendary, but i’ve been too busy chasing shadows to investigate.

I spent yesterday wandering through Fushimi Inari-taisha, which is basically a mountain covered in thousands of red torii gates. it was intense. like, seriously intense. and the crowds! ugh. i swear, i saw a guy wearing a full samurai outfit arguing with a pigeon. it was glorious.

Then, tonight, i went ghost hunting. yeah, you read that right. i’d heard whispers - drunken advice from a guy at a karaoke bar - about a particularly active spot near Kiyomizu-dera Temple. let me tell you, the air felt different there. cold, even though it was warm. i used my EMF reader (a cheap one, don’t judge) and it spiked a few times. nothing definitive, but… unsettling. i definitely felt watched.

Here’s the gear list, because someone always asks:

Camera: Sony a7iii (obviously) - gotta capture the chaos.
*Lenses: 24-70mm, 70-200mm - for when i need to be stealthy (like, ghost hunting stealthy).
*EMF Reader: The ‘SpiritSeeker 3000’ - it’s a scam, but it’s fun.
*Notebook & Pen: For documenting the weirdness.
*Snacks: Onigiri, mochi, and way too much matcha ice cream.
*Rain Gear: Seriously, it rains constantly*.

I stumbled across this little shop selling antique kimonos - the owner, a wizened old woman named Hana, gave me some seriously cryptic advice. She said, and i quote, `“The past remembers. Listen to the stones.”` I think she was talking about the ghosts, honestly. Or maybe she just really liked my boots.

I also checked out Yelp for some ramen recommendations. Apparently, ‘Ramen Ichiban’ is the place to go, but it’s always packed. I’m going to try ‘Menbakaichidai’ tomorrow - they flash your ramen with hot oil. Sounds… dramatic.

Speaking of dramatic, I saw a street performer dressed as a giant kappa (a Japanese water spirit) today. He was juggling oranges and yelling about the importance of respecting nature. It was… a thing.

I overheard some locals talking about a hidden shrine tucked away in the bamboo forest - they said it’s haunted by a heartbroken geisha. I’m planning on checking it out tomorrow. I heard that if you leave a single white flower at the shrine, your wish will come true. I’m wishing for a decent night’s sleep.

Seriously, the rain is relentless. It’s like the city is perpetually weeping. I’m starting to think I’m going to develop a permanent dampness. But hey, at least it’s atmospheric.

I’m heading to a tea ceremony tomorrow - apparently, it’s a very important cultural experience. I’m mostly hoping they have snacks. And maybe a ghost.

Okay, I need more coffee. And possibly a therapist. Seriously, this place is wild.
