iloilo city: where the heat feels like a hug
waking up in iloilo city is like stepping into a warm bath you didn't ask for. the numbers said 27.33°C but it felt more like 29.43°C, which is basically nature's way of saying "nope, you're not leaving the bed." i just checked and it's 27.33°C there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.
i rolled out of bed and immediately regretted it. the humidity was 70%, which sounds like a lot until you're actually in it and your shirt becomes a second skin. but hey, that's iloilo for you-unapologetically sticky.
first stop: coffee. i heard from a barista at *madge coffee that their cold brew is the only thing keeping locals sane in this heat. i believed her. the place was packed with people pretending to work on laptops while actually just surviving.
later, i wandered into molo plaza, where someone told me the molo church is haunted. "they say a nun walks the halls at midnight," a teenager whispered, eyes wide. i didn't stick around to verify. instead, i grabbed pansit molo from a stall nearby-warm, soupy, and exactly what my sweat-soaked body needed.
if you get bored, bacolod and guimaras are just a short drive away. someone mentioned the mangoes in guimaras are life-changing, but i was too busy melting to check.
the pressure was 1013 hPa, which sounds scientific but really just means the air was thick enough to chew. i kept thinking about how the dinagyang festival must be insane here-all that dancing in this weather? respect.
random tip: la paz batchoy at netong's is worth the sweat. someone online said it's the best in the city, and after one bowl, i didn't argue.
by evening, the temp dropped to a breezy 27.33°C (lol, still hot). i sat by the esplanade, watching the river and wondering if the humidity was slowly turning me into a puddle. probably.
iloilo isn't a city that apologizes for itself. it's loud, it's sticky, and it's unforgettable. and honestly? i kind of loved it.
