Getting Lost in the Pulse of Malolos
so i just landed in malolos and my brain's still catching up. the air’s thick with humidity, the kind that sticks to your skin like a second shirt. i just checked and it's 25.87°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. not gonna lie, i almost turned back at the airport when i saw the heat map on my phone. but hey, that's half the adventure, right?
walking down the street, the first thing i noticed was the chatter-everywhere. street vendors shouting, kids laughing, motorcycles weaving like they're in a video game. it's chaotic but somehow... perfect. someone told me that the best pancit in town is sold from a cart near the church, so naturally, that's where i headed. and yeah, it lived up to the hype. smoky, savory, and gone in about three minutes flat.
i overheard a local saying the Barasoain Church is a must-see. apparently it's got more history than my entire hometown. so i wandered over, half expecting a crowd, but it was just me and a stray cat. quiet in a way that felt almost sacred. if you're into old stones and whispered stories, this place delivers.
later, i ducked into a little café because my shirt was sticking to me in all the wrong places. the barista, probably sensing my heatstroke, handed me an iced coffee without me even asking. best. move. ever. i heard from another traveler that the nightlife here is surprisingly lively for a small city, but i haven't tested that rumor yet. maybe tonight.
if you get bored, manila and bulacan are just a short drive away. but honestly? i'm not bored. there's something about the rhythm here that makes you want to slow down and just... be. even the stray dogs look like they've got nowhere to be.
before i forget-someone online said the Barasoain Museum is worth the trip. i haven't been yet, but if it's half as interesting as the church, i'm sold.
anyway, here's a little map so you don't end up like me, wandering in circles:
and because i can't help myself, here are a few snaps from today:
if you're ever in the neighborhood, say hi to the barista for me. and maybe bring a fan.
