Dust & Echoes in Port Azure
okay, so, i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and lukewarm synth-coffee. the time zone is a total blur. i landed in Port Azure - seriously, the name just screams faded glory, right? - about 48 hours ago, and my brain feels like a broken sequencer. the air’s thick, like wet velvet, and it smells vaguely of brine and something…metallic. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the pressure’s sitting at 1007, humidity’s hovering around 52, and the ground level is a surprisingly low 955. weird, i know.
I was supposed to be documenting the ‘Neo-Art Deco Revival’ - which, let’s be honest, sounds like a terrible marketing campaign - but honestly, I’m mostly just trying to avoid eye contact. the whole place feels…observed. like a million tiny cameras are judging my questionable fashion choices. i’m wearing this vintage jumpsuit i snagged from a reclamation depot in Neo-Detroit - it’s got a serious shoulder pad situation - and a pair of combat boots that have seen better decades. it’s a look, i guess.
I stumbled into this little bar called ‘The Static Wave’ last night. it’s tucked away down a side street, all flickering neon and synth-jazz. the bartender, a guy named Silas with a cybernetic eye and a permanent smirk, told me someone told him that the best way to understand Port Azure is to listen to the rain. which, honestly, is probably true. it’s a constant, low thrumming sound, like a forgotten machine trying to start up.
Speaking of listening, I overheard some interesting chatter.
“Don’t trust the Chronomasters,” a woman with iridescent hair hissed, swirling her synth-wine. “They’re obsessed with ‘authenticity’ - it’s a cover for controlling everything. And the seafood? Avoid the bioluminescent squid. Seriously, avoid it.”
Seriously, the squid. I’m adding that to my list of things to avoid. I’m trying to find some decent street art, but it’s mostly just holographic projections of corporate logos. depressing. I found a few decent murals though, near the old docks. the colors are muted, like faded photographs, but there’s a strange beauty to it.
Here’s the gear I’m lugging around:
Vintage Camera (obviously)
Synth-Coffee Maker (essential)
Noise-Canceling Headphones (for sanity)
Multi-Tool (because, you know, survival)
Sketchbook & Charcoal (for capturing the…vibes)
Portable Power Bank (because my phone is a dead weight)
* A surprisingly large collection of vintage postcards.
I’m thinking of checking out the ‘Forgotten Quarter’ tomorrow. Apparently, it’s where the old factories are - now filled with squatters and artists. Yelp says it’s “a chaotic blend of grit and creativity.” I’m hoping for chaos. I need chaos.
If you get bored, Neo-Veridia is just a short drive away, according to a drunk tourist I met at the bar. He also suggested I try the ‘Memory Cakes’ - which, based on his description, probably involve a lot of questionable ingredients.
I heard that the Chronomasters have a gala tonight - a celebration of ‘historical preservation.’ It sounds utterly ridiculous. I’m tempted to crash it, just to see what the fuss is about. Maybe I’ll even steal a holographic portrait.
Seriously, the whole place feels like a museum exhibit that’s slowly decaying. It’s beautiful and unsettling at the same time.
I’m heading to the ‘Azure Echoes’ - a small, independent record store - to see if they have any vinyl from the pre-Collapse era. Apparently, they’re incredibly rare. I’m also checking out TripAdvisor for recommendations on where to find decent synth-noodles. Wish me luck.
And one last thing: don’t eat the blue berries. Seriously.
