Buenos Aires: A Drummer's Midnight Stumble Through the City

it's 3am and i'm still wired from last night's show at a tiny bar in San Telmo. the crowd was electric, the drummer's sweat was flying, and now i'm sitting in a 24-hour cafe on Avenida Corrientes trying to make sense of the last 48 hours. the city's still buzzing outside like it never sleeps-which, honestly, feels about right.

i just checked and it's 18.94°C there right now, which is basically perfect gig weather. not too hot for hauling gear, not so cold you need three layers of thermals. feels like 18.06°C with a nice breeze coming off the Rio de la Plata. i'll take it.

San Telmo's cobblestone streets are a nightmare for rolling drum cases, but the vintage shops and street art make up for every bumped wheel. someone told me that Plaza Dorrego turns into a full-on party on Sundays with tango dancers and antique vendors everywhere. i missed it this time, but it's on the list for next tour.

if you get bored, Montevideo and Colonia del Sacramento are just a short drive away. i've heard Montevideo has a killer music scene too, though i haven't made it there yet. maybe next month's gig circuit will take me across the water.

overheard a couple of local musicians at the bar last night talking about how Palermo's the place to be for late-night eats. they mentioned this 24-hour pizza joint called Kentucky Pizza that apparently never disappoints after midnight. i'll have to check it out-after all, a drummer's gotta fuel up.

i've been staying near Plaza de Mayo, which is perfect for walking to most downtown venues. the architecture here is wild-like someone took Parisian buildings, splashed them with Latin color, and let them age beautifully. it's chaotic and charming all at once.

random tip from a sound guy i met: always carry cash in Buenos Aires. a lot of smaller venues and bars don't take cards, and you don't want to miss out on a last-minute session because you're short on pesos.

anyway, i should probably try to sleep soon. got another show at a club in Palermo tonight, and my hands need to not feel like jelly. but first, maybe one more coffee and a quick scroll through the local music boards to see what's popping off tonight.
