Bodrum Blues: Chasing Sun, Sea, and a Little Bit of Chaos

i didn't plan to end up in bodrum. it just sort of happened after a late-night ferry decision and a bottle of cheap wine. the numbers 304355 and 1792459665? no idea what they mean-maybe a booking reference, maybe the universe laughing at me. but the weather data? that's real. 5.2°c and feels like 1.77°c. basically, it's cold enough to make you regret wearing shorts but warm enough to pretend you're on holiday.

anyway, bodrum is this weird mix of ancient ruins and boujee beach clubs. one minute you're staring at a 2000-year-old amphitheater, the next you're dodging foam parties at a yacht marina. i heard from a guy at the hostel (who claimed to be a "digital nomad" but looked more like he'd just escaped a startup meeting) that the best kebab in town is at *kebapƧı ƶmer usta. he said it with the kind of conviction usually reserved for conspiracy theories.

i spent an afternoon wandering the marina, pretending i belonged on one of those gulets. the kind of boats that look like they belong in a bond movie. i didn't have the budget for that, so i settled for a ferry to kos instead. if you get bored,
marmaris and didim are just a short drive away. or a long bus ride, depending on how much you hate your spine.

"the water's freezing, but the sunsets are worth it,"

said a local fisherman i met at a tiny cafe called kızılırmak. he was smoking something that smelled like pine and regret. i believed him about the sunsets-they were unreal. the kind of thing you'd expect to see in a tourism ad, but way less staged.

i just checked and it's still hovering around 5°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. if you're into history, the
castle of st. peter is a must. it's got moats, towers, and enough ancient vibes to make you feel like you're in a video game. but be warned: someone told me that the museum inside is a bit of a snooze if you're not into shipwrecks. take that as you will.

for food,
baba gƶl* is where you go when you're hungover and need something greasy and perfect. i heard that from a girl who claimed she'd been there for three weeks and hadn't left the same street. maybe she was onto something.

anyway, here's a map so you don't get as lost as i did:

and because i'm a sucker for visuals, here are some unsplash shots that kinda capture the vibe:

if you're planning a trip, just know that bodrum is one of those places that doesn't care if you're ready. it'll drag you in anyway. and honestly? that's kind of the point.
