a weekend in berlin through the lens of a digital nomad with a broken keyboard

just checked my phone, and it's still 9.82c here in berlin, the kind of chilly that stings when it hits your exposed face. the friend who lives here said it feels like 7.73, but i've never agreed with that because my cheekbones are red right now.

this place has a vibe. not the clean, curated kind. more like luckily, there's a starbucks on every other lamppost, which is a blessing when you're freelanced and depend on their overpriced espresso to fake productivity. propped up my laptop at the next table and tried to work while the barista yelled something in german at a customer who left without paying. it's either edgy or free. who knows.

the weather's a drama queen. walked to the park and the wind hit me like a betrayed lover. 83% humidity? no. 83% the kind of air that makes your jacket feel like a second skin. and then the sky! mostly cloudy with one shard of sunshine trying to sneak through. intermediate.

got a notification from a local meetup app. someone told me the hydro bar has the best techno nights but also supposedly haunted restrooms. guess that's why the bouncer kept eyeing me like i owed him money. if you get bored, herne is just a short drive away. same with berlin west, which has that weird mix of abandoned factories and neon-lit bars. both are less than an hour on the bahnhof.

heard this one rumor about the best doner kebab shop near murckstrasse. the owner's name is something like imad, and he apparently translates english reviews into swear words for fun. someone else mentioned the beta, that it's 'a little rough but full of stories,' which is true. you get a free water with a purchase if you mention that phrase. works every time.

this city lies to you about silence. even the river doesn't stop talking. the pulkau flooded last month, but they still let kids skate over it. not me, though. too busy trying to find a decent colada. found a place called 'revelo' that charges 12 euros for a matcha latte. nice. dragged my keyboard through the streets and into a park to write this. the grass was damp, the wifi spotty, but hey, that's the rate.

someone once told me berlin has a daniel lab, but it's actually closed for renovations. the woman there, marco, used to fix my phone for a side hustle. still has my cracked screen in a jar. maybe i'll go back next week. depends if it snows again.

dogs here are the grungy type. always off-leash, always wearing berlin's wool sweaters. i'd put mine in a drawstring if i had the energy. maybe after this".
