wandering around orlando like a caffeinated squirrel
okay so here i am in orlando, and i’m not even sure why i came. maybe it was the 19.51°c weather that made it sound like a tropical dream, or maybe it was the humidity hitting 93% that convinced me i’d be living in a steam room. either way, i’m here, sweating, and trying to figure out what the hell to do besides stare at theme park billboards.
i just checked and it’s 19.51°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. it’s the kind of weather that makes you want to sit in a cafe all day, people-watch, and pretend you’re in a movie montage. but orlando doesn’t really do “cafe culture” like other cities. it’s more “coffee in a to-go cup while sprinting to catch a bus to universal studios.”
if you get bored, tampa and daytona beach are just a short drive away. but let’s be real, who gets bored in orlando? there’s too much neon, too many roller coasters, and too many people in mickey mouse ears to ever feel bored. unless you’re me, and you’re just here to eat your way through the city and avoid all the tourist traps.
i heard that the best tacos in town are at this tiny spot called *taco baby. someone told me that the owner used to be a chef at a five-star restaurant but got tired of the pretentiousness and opened this little hole-in-the-wall instead. i haven’t been yet, but it’s on my list. right after i finish my third iced coffee of the day.
and speaking of coffee, voodoo doughnuts is a thing here. i know, i know, it’s not coffee, but their maple bacon bar is the kind of thing that makes you question your life choices in the best way possible. i also heard that stardust video & coffee is a local favorite, but i haven’t braved the line yet. maybe tomorrow.
anyway, i’m off to find more coffee and maybe a quiet corner to write this blog post. orlando, you’re weird, but i kind of love you. just don’t ask me to go on a roller coaster. i’ll pass.
