Vila Velha Through a Lens: A Photographer's Mess

okay, so vila velha? where do i even start. been shooting here for a week straight, camera glued to my face like a third limb. the humidity’s got my lenses fogging up faster than i can say ‘aperture priority’. i just looked outside and it’s... 24°C with that sticky air that makes your hair rebel, hope you’re into that kind of sauna vibe. *Praia da Costa is where the real chaos unfolds - tourists in neon Speedos, locals selling grilled cheese on skewers, and me trying not to get sand in my gear.

Praia da Costa beach scene

the light here is wild. one minute it’s soft and golden, next it’s harsh noon sun making everyone squint. i’ve been
Convento da Penha twice for sunrise - those colonial ruins against the ocean? chef’s kiss. though i swear the climb nearly killed me. my knees still sound like maracas. when you’ve had enough of this spot, vitória is basically next door, and then there’s also viana if you want to keep driving.

Vila Velha street market

“i was at
Mercado Municipal shooting these fishmongers when this drunk guy stumbled over, hiccuped, and said ‘the best photo spots are where the locals argue’. then he tried to pay me in expired coupons. take that as you will.”

someone told me the
Morro do Itapemirim lookout is magical at dusk, but then again, they also said the same about a gas station. turns out both had killer city views. i heard that the seafood at the market is so fresh it’ll make you question life choices - and i’m not kidding about the prices. my wallet’s still weeping.

Vila Velha coastline

“this hipster cafe owner near the beach whispered that the only way to avoid tourist traps is to follow stray dogs. apparently, they know where the best açaí bowls are hidden. tried it. got lost. also ate three bowls. worth it.”

for real though, if you’re into photography, bring your widest lens. the
Ilha do Boi* views will make you weep. and maybe pack extra lens wipes - this humidity is no joke. for more spots, check TripAdvisor’s Vila Velha page or Yelp’s local eats. the city’s tourism board actually has decent maps too.

peace out, and may your focus ring never jam.
