Trudging Through the Weirdness of Uberlândia, Brazil

woke up in uberlândia with a headache and a weird sense of deja vu. the numbers from last night-3466696 and 1076169871-were still scribbled on my arm. no idea what they mean, but i blame the caipirinhas.

anyway, the weather here is a humid 21°c with 84% humidity, so basically you step outside and immediately question your life choices. i just checked and it's sticky and warm right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

first stop: the municipal market. someone told me that the acai bowls here are "life-changing" but honestly it tasted like frozen dirt with granola. still ate it. the locals gave me side-eye, probably because i was the only one sweating through my shirt in november.

walked around the praça são bento and overheard a couple arguing about whether the statue was of a saint or a dictator. classic. i pretended to take a photo but really i was just eavesdropping. overheard rumors say the nightlife here is wild, but i was in bed by 9pm with a face mask on, so who knows.

if you get bored, belo horizonte and são paulo are just a short drive away. but honestly, uberlândia has enough chaos to keep you entertained for a weekend. just don't expect anyone to speak english unless you're at a hipster coffee shop.

tried to find a decent dinner spot and ended up at a place called "tio zé's grill." the reviews said it was "authentic," which i now know means "no a/c and questionable meat." still, the picanha was fire. i think. or maybe i was just starving.

A spanish flag waves in the wind.

lastly, if you're into weird architecture, check out the biblioteca parque. it's this massive concrete thing that looks like it was designed by someone who hates curves. but inside? surprisingly cozy. they even have a little cafe where i accidentally ordered a "pingado" and got a tiny cup of coffee with milk. still good.

anyway, that's it for now. uberlândia: humid, confusing, and oddly charming. would probably come back, but only if someone else is driving.
