puré and the weird little corner of colombia i didn't expect
so there i was, staring at my phone, trying to figure out where the hell i was. 3687964. what is that, a zip code? a hotel room number? turns out it's just some random thing i wrote down while half-asleep in a hostel in puré. yeah, puré. not exactly a tourist hotspot, but that's kind of why i ended up there. i needed a break from the backpacker trail, and this little town felt like it had secrets. the weather? 20.31°c, feels like 20.43°c. basically perfect hoodie weather, not too hot, not too cold, just enough to make you want to sit outside with a coffee and people-watch. humidity's at 78%, so yeah, it's a little muggy, but nothing a cold drink can't fix.
i heard from a barista at this tiny place called café del sol that the best thing to do here is just wander. "no maps, no plans," she said, smirking like she knew something i didn't. so i did. and honestly? it worked. the streets are narrow, the buildings are colorful but faded, and every corner smells like something different-fresh bread, diesel, jasmine, you name it. i kept thinking, this is what travel should feel like: messy, unplanned, a little confusing.
if you get bored, ibagué and tolima are just a short drive away, and locals say they're worth a day trip if you're into hiking or hot springs. but honestly, i didn't want to leave puré. not yet. there's something about places that don't try too hard. they just... are.
oh, and before i forget-someone told me that the best empanadas in town are sold out of a cart near the central plaza after 7pm. "don't bother going earlier," they said. "he won't be there." weird little tip, but i trusted it. and yeah, they were incredible.
if you're the type who needs a plan, this place might drive you nuts. but if you're okay with getting a little lost, puré might just surprise you. just don't expect anyone to speak english. and don't expect luxury. but do expect to leave with a story or two.
