Osaka Nights: Where the Streets Taste Like Ramen

so i'm sitting here in this cramped little capsule hotel in osaka, staring at a ceiling that's basically a glorified coffin lid, and i'm thinking... how did i end up here again? oh right, that 1392193996 timestamp on my last blog post. feels like a lifetime ago. anyway, osaka is wild. like, really wild. the kind of wild where you accidentally order a whole grilled squid on a stick and then eat it because you're too tired to argue with the vendor.

i just checked and it's 9.75°C there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. it's the kind of cold that sneaks up on you after three bowls of ramen and a vending machine beer. speaking of ramen, i stumbled into this place called Ichiran Ramen (not sponsored, just obsessed) and let me tell you, solo dining in a cubicle while slurping noodles is peak existential travel therapy.

now, if you get bored, kyoto and kobe are just a short train ride away. but honestly? osaka's got enough chaos to keep you busy for days. i heard from a drunk salaryman at a 7/11 that the Dotonbori area is "tourist trash" but also "the only place worth going." classic japanese honesty.

and then there's the street food. i'm talking takoyaki that's so hot it could weld steel, and okonomiyaki that tastes like a hug from a japanese grandma. someone told me that the best okonomiyaki is in a basement joint called Mizuno, but i also heard it's overrated. so i went anyway. and yeah, it was good. but was it life-changing? maybe. maybe not.

anyway, i'm off to find a vending machine that sells hot coffee in a can. because that's a thing here and it's weirdly comforting. if you're planning a trip, just know that osaka doesn't care about your plans. it'll drag you into a tiny bar, feed you something deep-fried and delicious, and then laugh as you try to pronounce the name of the train station.
