nebula heights: where the wifi is strong but the vibes are stronger

so here i am, sitting in a co-working space that smells faintly of stale ramen and ambition, trying to look productive while actually just doomscrolling. i just checked the current temp and it's hovering right around 13, feels like 12. so if you're rolling through, pack layers. this place's weather does this thing where it's always one degree colder than you expect, like it's personally judging your clothing choices.

if you get stir-crazy, starlight valley and moonbeam river are just a quick scooter ride away. i spent yesterday chasing street art in moonbeam and found a mural of a dancing cat that's now my lock screen. the locals there are... intense. very passionate about their rice balls.

heard this from a tattoo artist at 2am: that ramen stall near the train station? supposedly the owner was a jazz musician in tokyo before retiring here. also, the broth has been simmering for 17 years. no, seriously. someone said they saw the same pot being refilled in '08.

overheard at the vegan cafe: that co-working space i'm in? it used to be a fish market. which explains the lingering smell. also, the upstairs bathroom is haunted by a ghost who really hates it when you leave the seat up. take it as you will.

found this spot called "the bean counter" - yes, really - that does this matcha latte with sea salt foam. it's weirdly good. they have a yelp page mostly filled with people complaining about the wifi being too fast (??) but the barista named kenji is a legend. told me the best place to watch the sunset is from the abandoned observatory up on hillside drive. just bring a jacket because it's always 10 degrees colder there than everywhere else.

some drunk guy at the izakaya last night: that capsule hotel near the station? supposedly the guy who designed it did it for his cat. the cat's been dead for years but the owner still keeps the room exactly as it was. also, the vending machine in the lobby sells hot sake at 3am for $1. don't ask me how i know.

i also stumbled into this flea market happening in the old schoolyard. found a vintage band tee for ¥500 and a guy selling handmade leather wallets who looked like he'd rather be anywhere else. tripadvisor says it's only sundays but i swear i saw it happening on a tuesday. maybe the locals just like messing with tourists.

pro tip: the public bus system here runs on... vibes. sometimes they show up every 10 minutes, sometimes they disappear for three hours. just download the app and hope it works. also, someone told me that the best udon in town is at this place called "noodle nirvana" but it's only open when there's a full moon. haven't caught it yet, but i've got alarms set.

anyway, that's the chaotic energy of nebula heights for you. where else can you get fast wifi, questionable urban legends, and really good sea salt matcha all in one place? check out the local events board if you're ever rolling through - just bring your own expectations and a good jacket.
