naples: where the light is as moody as the locals

so i landed in naples and my camera was buzzing like a bee that just found a flower. the air is thick with the smell of exhaust and fresh bread, and the light? man, the light here is perfect for moody shots. i just checked the temp and it's hovering around 15.58°C with that damp-feels-like-14.26 chill, so pack a light jacket if you're like me and feel the cold in your bones.

here's a map of the place. i was supposed to shoot for a project with id 3179661, but the real deadline was the sunset over the bay. that deadline was 1380725803 milliseconds since the epoch? nah, just kidding. it was yesterday. and i missed it. but the light was still good when i woke up.

a narrow street in naples

walking the streets, you get this feeling that every corner has a story. i heard that the best pizza is at this place called da michelino, but someone told me you have to wait two hours. like, really? i just want a slice, not a full-time commitment.

“don't bother with the main tourist traps for food. find a place that looks like it's falling apart and go there. that's where the magic happens.”

this is what a local guy i met at a bar said, while sipping on an amaro. he looked like he knew his stuff, so i took his advice. found a spot called 'la bufala', and wow. that was 1380725803 times better than tourist pizza. okay, maybe not that many times, but it was good.

and if you run out of things to do, pompeii and sorrento are just a short drive away. i didn't have time, but i'm saving it for next time. someone warned me that sorrento is overrun with tourists, but the views are worth it. and pompeii? like walking into a time capsule. creepy and cool.

“if you go to pompeii, wear good shoes. it's all cobblestones and you'll be walking for hours. also, don't touch the plaster casts. they get very angry.”

i'm not sure if that last part was a joke or not. better safe than sorry.

now, for the real gossip. i heard that the *castle nuovo* is haunted by a ghost who was locked in the dungeons for stealing a loaf of bread. and the ghost is still there, waiting for his bread. or something like that. who knows. and check out naples on tripadvisor for more touristy stuff, but if you want the real vibe, maybe hit up this forum or yelp for eats.

so yeah, that's naples. messy, beautiful, and full of stories. i got 3179661 shots i need to edit now. wish me luck.
