Mystic Mumbai Musings: 1177042 & 1586677874
okay, so mumbai. where do i even begin? it's…a lot. the air hangs thick and heavy, like someone’s perpetually brewing chai. i just checked and it's radiating heat, a sort of sticky warmth that seeps into everything. hope you like that kind of thing.
i landed late, bleary-eyed, fueled by lukewarm airplane coffee and a questionable amount of hope. already felt like i was wading through a vibrant, noisy soup. the numbers 1177042 and 1586677874 kept popping into my head - i have no idea why. maybe they’re coordinates? a phone number? a code to unlock some secret Mumbai magic? who knows.
my little room in Colaba is…cozy. let’s go with that. it’s definitely got character - the kind of character that comes from decades of use and possibly a few questionable renovations. the walls are peeling in places, but hey, adds to the ambiance, right? my neighbor, old man patel, keeps offering me unsolicited advice on everything from the best street food to the proper way to fold a dhoti. he’s got this twinkle in his eye though, like he’s hiding a whole lifetime of stories.
i spent most of yesterday wandering. seriously, just wandering. getting happily lost in the maze of streets, dodging auto-rickshaws and inhaling the smells of spices, street food, and exhaust fumes. the energy is relentless. it’s overwhelming, but somehow…addictive. i’m trying to embrace the chaos, you know? it’s definitely a far cry from the quiet predictability of my life back home.
found this amazing little cafe tucked away in a side street. the coffee was strong enough to kickstart a small engine, and the owner, a woman named Priya, told me the best places to find authentic vada pav. she said, "go to Ela Naka, but be prepared for a queue!"
someone told me that the Gateway of India is beautiful at night, but be wary of the crowds. apparently, pickpockets love it there. classic. also heard from a local that the best street food isn’t always the cleanest. food safety is…a suggestion, at best. definitely checking out some guides on TripAdvisor before I dive headfirst into the culinary scene.
the humidity is brutal. it clings to you like a second skin. people seem unfazed, though. they just keep moving, hustling, living their lives. it's truly something to behold. the colors! everywhere you look, explosions of color - saris, buildings, street art... it’s a sensory overload in the best possible way. the pressure is 1010, the humidity is 11%, and the temperature is around a balmy 36.79 Celsius.
i’m planning a day trip to Elephanta Island - apparently, the caves are incredible. also thinking about checking out some of the art galleries in Bandra. i'm finding it hard to switch off from dreaming of documenting everything.
seriously, 1586677874…what is that? i keep expecting it to be a password, a zip code, something. maybe it's a hidden message embedded in the city itself? this trip is turning out to be more mysterious than i anticipated. thinking about booking a guided walking tour through Colaba Causeway - I saw good reviews on Yelp about a local named Rohan. And hey, if you are looking to learn more about the history, try out some posts on History Stack Exchange. Anyway, gotta go. off to find some chai and get happily lost again.
