Mexico City: A Freelance Photographer's Chaotic Canvas
so i landed in this concrete jungle with my camera and caffeine addiction, and let me tell you - it's a sensory overload in the best way possible. *zócalo is where the madness begins, that giant square where history, vendors, and pigeons all fight for attention. i just checked the weather and it's hovering around that lukewarm sweater zone right now, hope you brought layers. my boots are soaked from yesterday's downpour that came outta nowhere, but my shot of the cathedral's reflection in a puddle? chef's kiss.
if you get tired of the city buzz, cuernavaca and tepotzotlán are just a short drive away for when the crowds get too much. speaking of crowds, someone told me that the street food stands near monumento a la revolución are basically a culinary daredevil course. one bite of those tlacoyos and your guts will declare war, totally worth it though.
i heard that the blue house in coyocán has ghost vibes so thick you can practically see them, but the pastries make up for it. or maybe that's just the mezal speaking.
bazar del sábado in san ángel is where i spent three hours trying to decide if that vintage leather jacket was worth selling a kidney for. totally was. then i wandered into this tiny photography shop run by this guy who looked like he hadn't slept since the 90s, and he told me about this hidden rooftop bar with insane views. check out the locals' take on bars here.
someone whispered that the best light for shooting the palacio de bellas artes is at 4:17pm sharp, but also mentioned that the security guards hate tripods. so now you know.
alameda central at dusk is when this city really breathes - old folks doing tango, kids skateboarding, vendors selling those weird fluorescent popsicles. i'm telling you, the humidity and the smog make every color pop like crazy. for more park vibes, see this guide.
my camera's memory card is screaming, my feet are screaming louder, but i swear i could shoot this city for a year and still not scratch the surface. that mercado de jamaica*? pure chaos with flowers piled like rainbows. find more market madness here. just don't trust anyone who says they know the best coffee shop - that rabbit hole goes deep.
