lost in the rhythm of lima, ohio

woke up to a sky that looked like it'd been crying all night. the temp was hanging around 3°c, but the wind made it feel like i was standing in a freezer. humidity was at 74%, which is basically the universe's way of saying 'here, have some extra chill with that cold.' if you're into crisp, nose-tingling air, this is your spot. if not, maybe wait for summer. or don't. i don't run your life.

lima isn't exactly a tourist magnet, but that's what makes it interesting. it's the kind of place where you can actually feel the heartbeat of small-town america. the streets are wide, the buildings have character, and there's a weird mix of old factories and new coffee shops that somehow works. i spent the morning wandering around downtown, pretending i was in a movie where the protagonist is searching for something they didn't know they lost.

overheard a group of old-timers at a diner talking about how lima used to be the tire capital of the world. now? it's more like the 'we still have some cool stuff here' capital. someone mentioned the all-american marathon, which apparently draws a crowd. i didn't stick around for the whole conversation because the smell of bacon was too distracting.

if you get bored, toledo and columbus are just a short drive away. but honestly, lima's got enough quirks to keep you entertained for a weekend. the lima symphony orchestra is a thing, and i heard it's surprisingly good. like, 'how does this small town have such a legit orchestra?' good.

food-wise, i hit up a place called the southside six. it's a dive bar with a grill, and the burgers are the kind of messy you need a stack of napkins for. someone told me that the cincinnati-style chili here is a must-try, but i chickened out and went with the classic. next time, maybe.

weather-wise, it's the kind of place where you check the forecast, see 'partly cloudy,' and then get hit with a surprise drizzle. so, layer up. and maybe bring an umbrella. or don't. getting caught in the rain builds character.

lima's not flashy, but it's got soul. it's the kind of town where you can sit on a bench, watch the world go by, and feel like you're part of something bigger. or smaller. depends on your perspective.
