Lost in Lisbon: 370457 & 1728685965 – A Whirlwind

okay, so lisbon. where do i even begin? i landed last night, bleary-eyed and fueled by questionable airport coffee, and immediately felt like i'd stepped into a postcard… a slightly faded, sun-bleached postcard, maybe. the air here is thick with the smell of salt and something vaguely… orange? i’m not sure what it is. probably the pastries. *Pastéis de Nata are a serious addiction, guys. seriously.

The weather? i just checked and it's… pleasantly warm. like a warm hug, but not suffocating. the forecast says it's going to stay pretty much like this for the next few days, which is a major win. feels_like 21.34°C, temp 22.25°C - not bad at all. humidity is surprisingly low, which is a bonus after that swampy week in the Algarve.

I’m staying in Alfama, which is… an experience. Think winding cobblestone streets, laundry strung between buildings, and the constant strumming of Portuguese guitars. it’s delightfully chaotic. someone told me that the best Fado houses are tucked away down the smallest, most unassuming alleyways. i’m determined to find one.

Neighborhood vibes are definitely… lived-in. it's not the polished, tourist-trap kind of charm. it feels real. like actual people are actually living their lives here. if you get bored, Sintra is just a short train ride away. I heard that the Pena Palace is breathtaking, but also packed with people. which, let's be honest, kinda kills the magic. maybe go super early?

Spent the afternoon getting gloriously lost. which, let’s be real, is half the fun. stumbled upon a tiny little cafe serving the
most amazing coffee. seriously, the coffee is a revelation here. i’d happily live on coffee and Pastéis de Nata. talking to the barista, his hands were stained brown from the coffee, he said that everyone here has a story. he muttered something about pirates and hidden treasures. could be true, could be just a local legend. i'm leaning towards the legend.

I’m trying to embrace the spontaneity of it all. no rigid itineraries, just following my nose and seeing where the day takes me. This is not a #wanderlust Insta-perfect trip, more of a… messy exploration.

Pro-tip*: Download a offline map. Seriously. Google Maps will be your best friend. also, learn a few basic Portuguese phrases. it goes a long way. and don't be afraid to get lost - that’s where the best discoveries happen. i saw a board at a local hostel offering walking tours - you can check them out on TripAdvisor.

This whole experience feels like a dream. i’ve already felt so welcomed by the people, and i’m excited to dive deeper. I also found a cool article about hidden gems in Lisbon on a travel blog - might be worth a look. And this website has some great info on getting around using the metro.

who would have thought, this random jumble of numbers - 370457 & 1728685965 - would lead me here, to this little corner of the world. either it’s a sign, or it's just…random. either way, i’m here to soak it all in.

gonna go find more Pastéis de Nata. wish me luck (and a strong coffee!).
