los baños: coffee, chaos, and a whole lot of rain
okay so here i am in los baños, and lemme tell you-this place is wild. i just checked and it's 32°C and feels like 34.86°C there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. humidity's at 52%, which means i'm basically a walking puddle. but hey, that's part of the charm, right?
anyway, i rolled into town after a long bus ride from manila, and the first thing i did was hunt for coffee. *kape at pandan was the move-tiny spot, but the barista had this whole vibe going on. someone told me that their barako is the strongest in town, and honestly? i believe it. my hands were shaking for an hour.
los baños isn't huge, but it's got this energy. it's a university Town, so you've got students everywhere, cheap eats, and random murals popping up on walls. i heard that the International Rice Research Institute grounds are worth a walk if you're into plants or just need a breather from the chaos.
now, about the weather-it's hot, but there's always a chance of rain. i got caught in a sudden downpour near lake caliraya, and let me tell you, that was an experience. if you're planning to explore, bring an umbrella or just embrace the wet look.
if you get bored, san pablo and cainta are just a short drive away. i didn't make it there this time, but i heard that san pablo's seven lakes are a must-see. maybe next trip.
one thing i gotta mention: the food scene here is chefs kiss. silvanas from judith's is a local legend. someone warned me that if you don't try it, you're basically a tourist failure. so, i tried it. and yeah, they were right.
lodging-wise, i stayed at this little guesthouse near up los baños. it was basic, but clean, and the owner gave me a map with all the hidden gems marked. los baños* is the kind of place where you can just wander and find something cool.
