Kyotoin the Rain: A Digital Nomad's Messy Guide

Kyoto's weather is... well, it's 10 degrees right now. Hope you like that kind of thing. Feels like a damp 9, which is basically the universe telling you to invest in a better coat. Seriously, my fingers are still numb typing this. If you get bored of the constant drizzle, Osaka's just a train ride away, or maybe you'll find yourself wandering into a hidden temple courtyard instead. Someone told me that the ramen place near the station is hit or miss, but the owner's cat is legendary. I heard that too, and let me tell you, that cat has more personality than half the tourists here. Don't even get me started on the reviews for that 'traditional' tea house - apparently, the matcha is decent but the service moves slower than a Kyoto geisha on a Sunday stroll. *Check out the Gion district if you dare - it's like walking through a postcard, if postcards were slightly damp and smelled faintly of incense. The bamboo forest is a must, but go early or you'll be shoulder-to-shoulder with selfie sticks. For a real local vibe, hit up the Nishiki Market - it's chaos, but in the best possible way. Avoid the tourist traps near the main stations unless you want overpriced souvenirs and confused pigeons. If you need a break from the rain, the Kyoto International Manga Museum is a dry haven, or you can hide in a cozy cafe with a good book and a double espresso. The weather right now is... exactly what it is.*
