Iquitos: Where Concrete Meets The Jungle And My Spray Can Gets Sticky

okay, so i landed in this place called iquitos. no roads leading here, just planes or boats. which is perfect for a street artist like me - less tourists, more walls to claim. *the air here feels like you’re breathing through a wet sock, honestly. i just checked the weather and it’s basically a warm, sticky embrace right now, hope you’re into that kind of thing. humidity’s so high my paint’s getting gloopy before it even hits the wall.

people walking on park during daytime

spent the first three days wandering the
malea district. walls covered in peeling paint and political slogans - my kinda canvas. found this abandoned cinema near the riverbank. smelled like mildew and magic. painted this huge anaconda swallowing a plane symbol. locals gave me side-eye but didn’t say shit.

"heard some whispers from this bartender named carlos. said don’t touch the blue paint near the port. belongs to this crew called ‘los rios’. they’ll carve your initials into your own face if you mess with their tags."

ate this ceviche joint near the market.
the lime juice here is next level - burns your tongue in the best way. someone told me the shrimp was caught that morning. tasted like victory. also heard whispers that the fish market closes at 4am sharp. if you miss it, you’re eating mystery meat all day.

"ran into this german traveler at a hostel bar. drunk as hell. warned me about the ‘ghost artist’ apparently haunts the riverbank alleys. leaves tags that glow in the dark. said he saw one last week near the old cathedral. probably just huffing paint fumes, but who knows."

if you start feeling stir-crazy, neighboring villages like nauta and yurimaguas are just a boat hop away. cheaper beer too. tried buying spray cans here. jesus christ, they charge double what i’d pay in lima. bought this knock-off brand called ‘jungle blast’. works but smells like fermented fruit.

hitting up the
belén market at dawn tomorrow. heard the floating neighborhood is unreal. might bring watercolors instead of spray cans - humidity’s wrecking my stencils. also found this local art collective online. they do night projections on the cathedral walls. insane.

anyway, if you come here? pack light.
the mosquitoes* will eat you alive. and maybe bring your own paint. unless you wanna pay tourist prices for gloopy jungle blast.
