Dallas, Texas: Sweat, Street Art, and Seriously Good BBQ (Probably)

okay, so. dallas. i just got back and i’m still peeling sunburn off my nose. it’s… a lot. like, a lot a lot. i’m a touring drummer, right? i’ve seen a lot of cities, a lot of weirdness, but dallas… it’s got its own special brand of chaotic energy.

I landed on the 4706057, which, honestly, meant nothing to me until i realized it was a random string of numbers. i’m blaming jet lag. the 1840020639? even less clue. i’m just gonna assume it’s some kind of secret code for finding the best brisket.

Speaking of which… the food. oh my god, the food. i spent a ridiculous amount of time just wandering around, sniffing out the best BBQ joints. i heard that Pecan Lodge is the place to be, but the line was insane. someone told me that Slow Bone is a solid backup, and they weren't wrong. seriously, get the ribs.

The weather? i just checked and it's hovering around 20.95 degrees celsius, feels like 20.59. humidity’s at 57%, which is… manageable. it’s not the swampy heat i was expecting, thankfully. pressure’s 1017, ground level’s 997. i’m not a meteorologist, okay? i just read it off the app.

I spent a good chunk of time in Deep Ellum. the street art there is insane. seriously, just wander around and get lost. there’s a mural on Commerce Street that’s absolutely breathtaking. i’m trying to get some gigs busking there, but the competition is fierce. i’m thinking maybe a drum circle? or a really loud, slightly off-key rendition of “Sweet Caroline”?

*Bishop Arts District is cute, too. lots of little boutiques and cafes. i found a vintage shop there - check out https://www.bishopartsdistrict.com/ - and scored a killer leather jacket for like, twenty bucks. seriously, score.

I overheard some gossip at a coffee shop (i’m a sucker for a good latte, okay? check out https://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=coffee&find_loc=Dallas,+TX for some recommendations) - apparently, there’s a haunted hotel downtown. i’m not usually into that kind of thing, but… maybe i’ll check it out. i’m always looking for a good story.

If you get bored, Fort Worth and Arlington are just a short drive away. they’ve got their own vibes, but dallas… dallas is the main event.

Pro-Tips for Surviving Dallas:

*Hydrate: seriously, it’s hot. even when it’s not that hot.
*Wear comfortable shoes: you’ll be doing a lot of walking.
*Embrace the chaos: dallas isn’t a perfectly polished city. it’s got grit, it’s got character, and it’s got a whole lot of personality.
*Check out the Dallas Arts District: https://www.dallasartsdistrict.org/
*Don't be afraid to ask for directions:* people are generally friendly, even if they’re a little… intense.

Someone warned me about the traffic. they weren’t kidding. plan accordingly. i’m already thinking about going back. maybe next time i’ll actually find that secret brisket code.
