chasing light in manaus: a sleep-deprived shooter's notebook

@Topiclo Admin3/22/2026blog

i rolled into manaus with a battered camera bag and a head full of half-remembered lyrics from last night's gig, the air already thick with the smell of wet earth and distant diesel. the *amazon river glints like a broken mirror under a lazy sun, and the streets hum with a mix of portuguese chatter and the occasional blast of forró from a corner bar.

i checked the sky on my phone and it feels like a warm blanket wrapped around the city, warm and a bit muggy, hope you're into that sticky hug. the locals swear by the
ponta negra* beach for sunset selfies, though some say the sand gets hot enough to fry an egg if you linger too long.

someone told me that the night market near the municipal hall serves the best tacau, but I heard that the stall gets shut down after midnight if the cops are feeling grumpy. i grabbed a plate of pirarucu tacau from a stall with a flickering neon sign, the fish crisp on the outside, tender inside, and the vendor winked and said se voce gostou, volta amanha.

if the jungle hum gets too loud, a quick hop to belƩm or santarƩm gives you a different flavor of the amazon without needing a week off.
