Chandigarh Chronicles: A Digital Nomad's Chaotic Day in the City of Dreams

i woke up in chandigarh with no plan, just a vague idea that the weather outside was 22.63°c and i should probably go find coffee before my brain fully rebooted. the humidity was 60%, which is basically nature's way of saying 'you're gonna sweat but not enough to justify a shower yet.' i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

my first stop was supposed to be some hipster cafe i'd read about on tripadvisor, but instead i ended up at a roadside stall where a guy named raj served me chai so strong it could probably power a small car. someone told me that the best stories in chandigarh come from places with no signage, and honestly? they weren't wrong.

i spent the morning wandering through sector 17, which is basically chandigarh's version of a shopping district if shopping districts had way more aunties and way less air conditioning. i overheard a group of college kids debating whether the rock garden was 'aesthetic enough for instagram' and another couple arguing about whether paneer tikka should be considered a legitimate breakfast food. (it should.)

by noon, the temp hit 22.63°c exactly, which felt like the universe was trolling me with precision. i ducked into the government museum and art gallery because i'd heard rumors that the air conditioning was free and the exhibits were 'fine if you like looking at old things.' turns out, i do like looking at old things, especially when they're displayed in a building designed by le corbusier and the AC is actually working.

lunch was at pal dhaba, a place i'd been warned about by three different people who all said the same thing: 'the butter chicken will ruin all other butter chicken for you.' they were right. i'm still not sure how something so simple could make me question every life choice that led me to eat butter chicken anywhere else.

in the afternoon, i wandered over to the sukhna lake, which is exactly what it sounds like - a lake that's probably very peaceful if you're not being attacked by geese with trust issues. i rented a paddle boat and immediately regretted it when i realized i had no upper body strength and the wind was not my friend. but the views were worth it, especially when the sun started setting and the whole place turned gold.

if you get bored, amritsar and delhi are just a short drive away, but honestly? i was too busy trying to figure out if i could live in chandigarh permanently just for the food.

random thoughts from today: the auto-rickshaws here have better suspension than my last relationship, the street art in sector 22 is criminally underrated, and i still don't understand why every park has a sign that says 'no lovebirds allowed' but no one enforces it.

i ended the day at a tiny bar in sector 26 where the bartender told me that chandigarh's nightlife is 'like a shy teenager - it takes a while to warm up but then it surprises you.' he was right about that too. the drinks were cheap, the music was loud, and i met a guy who claimed he once saw a leopard in the nearby forest. (i'm choosing to believe him.)

chandigarh, you chaotic little city. i'll be back. probably for the butter chicken.
