Cebu City: When the Heat Hits You Like a Drum Solo

it's 19.78°c right now in cebu city and honestly? feels like someone left a window open in heaven. the humidity's sitting at 75%, which means my shirt's already halfway to being a second skin. but that's cebu for you-sticky, warm, and full of surprises.

i just checked and it's 19.78°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. if you're planning to walk around colon street or hit up the carbon market, bring water. lots of it. or just do what i did-stop every 20 minutes for a mango shake.

"you haven't seen cebu if you haven't gotten lost in the alleys near carbon,"

a street vendor told me while handing me a skewer of isaw. i believed him. mostly because he looked like he'd been eating isaw since the '80s.

if you get bored, mandaue and lapu-lapu are just a short drive away. mandaue's got furniture shops that'll make you question your life choices, and lapu-lapu? that's where you'll find the beaches that look like they were ripped out of a postcard.

now, about food. someone told me that the best lechon isn't in the tourist traps-it's in a tiny shop near the cebu IT park. i went. it was closed. but the guy next door sold me something that might've been pork, might've been chicken, and tasted like heaven. that's cebu for you.

i heard that taxi drivers here are either saints or maniacs. mine sang "my way" the entire ride and cried at the chorus. i tipped him extra.

if you're into history, check out the *basilica del santo niño and the fort san pedro. both are worth the sweat. and if you're into chaos, just walk down any street and let cebu happen to you.

for more on cebu's food scene, check out
TripAdvisor's Cebu Food Guide or Yelp's Top Cebu Restaurants*. and if you're feeling brave, ask a local where to get the best street food-just be ready for a 20-minute monologue about their aunt's secret recipe.

cebu doesn't hold your hand. it throws you in the deep end and hopes you can swim. but if you can handle the heat, the chaos, and the occasional off-key taxi serenade, you'll leave with stories that sound like they're straight out of a fever dream. and honestly? that's the best kind of travel.
