Buenos Aires Breakdown: Lost in Translation (and Delicious Empanadas)

okay, so i'm still processing *Buenos Aires. seriously. i landed a few days ago and it’s been a total sensory overload in the best (and sometimes weirdest) way. the numbers that popped into my head before i even packed? 3453060 and 1076490162. no idea why. maybe the airport wifi was messing with my brain.

The weather? i just checked and it's… a humid hug. like someone wrapped you in a warm, slightly damp blanket. there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the air smells like exhaust and something sweet, maybe baking. my phone says the temperature is 23.41°C, feels like 24.26°C. humidity is a solid 94%. definitely sweating, but also…alive?

I'm staying in
Palermo, which is… a lot. think tree-lined streets, cafes spilling onto the sidewalks, and the constant sound of tango music drifting from open windows. the buildings are all this faded pastel color - like someone forgot to apply a filter to the whole city.

Modern bridge architecture with suspension cables and towers

I’m trying to embrace the chaos, but it's hard. every corner you turn reveals a new surprise. like, i walked past a guy playing the accordion while dressed as a giant chicken. no context. just…chicken accordion.

Neighbors here are pretty cool. a mix of locals and tourists, mostly young people exploring. if you get bored, Mendoza is just a short drive away. apparently the wine is incredible, but i haven't had a chance to check that out yet. i'm more of a coffee and pastry kind of person right now.

Budget Student life is definitely in full swing. hostels are cheap, and there’s always street food. i’ve been living off empanadas - seriously, they’re addictive. i found this little place near Plaza Serrano that does the best salmónicas (corn empanadas). it's a total hole-in-the-wall, but worth the hunt. you can find more cheap eats on Yelp.

Overheard Gossip: `

Someone told me that the best tango shows aren't in the touristy areas - you have to find the hidden milongas.

` And another thing - `

Apparently, don’t trust anyone who offers you a ‘special’ tour. Someone warned me about a guy who charged way too much.

` Then there was this: `

The pigeons here are fearless. They’ll steal your chips right out of your hand.

` No kidding!

I’m trying to soak it all in, you know? the architecture, the music, the sheer energy of the city. it's a little overwhelming, a little disorienting, but mostly…amazing. i even stumbled across this amazing street art district - something a local warned me about because it's constantly changing. you can check out some of the murals on Instagram.

I'm thinking of checking out a tango lesson tomorrow. wish me luck. i’m pretty sure i’ll embarrass myself. but hey, that’s half the fun, right? i'm also planning a day trip to
Recoleta Cemetery* - apparently, it's like a city of the dead, but way more glamorous. i found some fascinating historical information on this website about it.

Anyway, gotta go find some more empanadas. adios for now!
