whatsapp: the app that’s always there when you don’t want to be
WhatsApp isn’t just a messaging app. It’s the stuff you use when you don’t want to think. Like when you’re lazy, or when you’re in a hurry, or when you just don’t feel like typing a full email. I’ve sent messages at 2 a.m. after a bad dream, or to someone I barely know, or even to my own phone by accident. It’s this weird middle ground between normal and chaotic, and that’s why it works so well.
But here’s the thing: WhatsApp isn’t magic. It’s just code, and a lot of people. A lot of people using it in ways they probably shouldn’t. Like sending NFTs to a group chat or forwarding 100 messages in a minute. It’s messy, but that’s the point.
WhatsApp’s simplicity is its biggest lie. You don’t need to learn anything. Just type, send, and forget. No ads, no complicated settings. But that simplicity hides a lot of complexity. Like how it’s owned by Meta, how it collects data, or how it’s changed over time. People don’t talk about that. They just keep using it.
