This Small Coastal City's North Face But We're Messy About Its Vibes

Forget all that ‘vibrant’ junk-last week I'm down to Lima, Peruvian, hit its beaches and the mess that actually rules here. Cuz it's not about that ‘heart of the metropolis’ blah blah. It's about the raw, messy, real vibe where locals don't pretend to be chill.

Oh man, this place feels like the place in all actuality. I grabbed a taco in Miraflores, that fancy area north of the train station and it cost 10 sores! Which, for Lima, is crazy high, but it's like: 'Eh, I come here to experience a country, not skip a burger.' Bah sandwiches were legit munching for anyone.

A local at a bar told me they class tourists as 'foreigners' here-no lip service. You don't get that 'I’m Peruvian' shtick, you live it-24/7. Barbaric? Maybe. Human? Absolutely.

And let's talk weather, which is the best way to know a place. Last week the temp was 28 degrees, feels like 30, which is just warm as fuck if you're from Wisconsin. It felt like the sun was hitting you straight through a window, about to burn a hole in your skin. Not usually a good sign for a tourist.

Walking north to the Pacific, you could nearly feel the sun hitting closer, way more head-on than in southern Lima-like a desert vibe where the sun's basically touching your face after several hours.

The vibe in the streets was noticeably higher. On EVERY BUS, people giving you the pier wing, kind of like you're some needy tourist! Even in a place where sometimes people chill, you can't do that-like a place with 15 million people. Here I'm feeling everything-availability’s first, history’s dug! More, I’d seen this meme about rust on everything, which kinda isn’t a joke here.

In San Juan de Lurigancho, you could see why their name's San Juan. Like the everybody's playing cards and drinking straight from the bottle, and sleeping rough everywhere, cause food’s expensive. The vibe’s either high or low, everybody's feeling the mess.

One developer who works in bankrupt bikeshops down by the Pacific said the city feels ‘melting’-like everyone’s melting. Everything barely sticks-colors, memories, experiences. Like, banging a boob, Whale oil food, the yellow taxi feeling like a wet wicker basket-just feeling like the city’s changing, but in a messy way.

Back to San Juan, which is looming large near the district of San Borja. Because nobody's prettier than a 'San Juan Mama,' they call locals, so the bars are lined up que escondidos. They're not flirting-it's just there.

I got cars in San Juan, which feels underdeveloped, which is strange given the trend. Only a few ladies had cars, and they were either driving taxi-very short, one wheel plastic taxis that take money, or they were drivers waiting for other women. The vibes were street worthy.

Money game means most drinks are 10, 20, 30 sores for locals. And looks like it’s next to Bolivia's largest Galerías in La Perla-So a massive view, lots of high spots and a place you come back to when you want to sit for 4 hours, calm down.
