thiruvananthapuram, where the heat meets the hum
i landed in thiruvananthapuram expecting a tropical paradise but instead got a mix of chaos and calm. the first thing i noticed was the humidity, which was exactly 61% according to my weather app. it felt like someone had turned up the oven to a simmer. not too bad, i guess, unless you hate being a human in a sauna.
then there's the neighbors. if you get bored, the backwaters are a short drive away. i heard that some locals swear by the beaches, but others say theyāre just a bunch of dirty water. iām the kind of person who likes to check both options, so i ended up wandering around the city instead.
the reviews here are all over the place. i overheard someone at a cafĆ© saying that the street food here is the best, but another person whispered that itās all just street meat. iām not sure which to believe. maybe itās a good thing? maybe not.
i just checked and itās 25.58 degrees, which is like the perfect temperature for a sweaty walk. or a nap. i took the latter.
the weather data i got shows a temp min and max of 25.58 to 25.95. so itās basically the same all day. thatās both a relief and a curse. no dramatic changes, just a constant presence of heat.
now, the map. i put up an iframe here because why not?
i found some images that might help.
links are tricky. i grabbed a tripadvisor for the local market, a yelp for a cafĆ©, and a local board for rumors about ghost stories. none of them are reliable, but hey, thatās the point.
someone told me that the local market sells the best mango chutney, but maybe itās a myth. i heard that. iām not sure if i should trust it. maybe iāll just buy a bottle and find out.
the vibe here is all over the place. sometimes itās like youāre in a movie set, other times itās just a bunch of people pretending to be normal. iām not sure if thatās a good thing.
iām a digital nomad by choice, so iād recommend this place if youāre into that. but donāt expect anything too organized. itās messy, but thatās part of the charm.
p.s. if youāre here, maybe try the street food. i heard that. iām not sure if i should. maybe i will.
