thiruvananthapuram, where the heat meets the hum

i landed in thiruvananthapuram expecting a tropical paradise but instead got a mix of chaos and calm. the first thing i noticed was the humidity, which was exactly 61% according to my weather app. it felt like someone had turned up the oven to a simmer. not too bad, i guess, unless you hate being a human in a sauna.

then there's the neighbors. if you get bored, the backwaters are a short drive away. i heard that some locals swear by the beaches, but others say they’re just a bunch of dirty water. i’m the kind of person who likes to check both options, so i ended up wandering around the city instead.

the reviews here are all over the place. i overheard someone at a café saying that the street food here is the best, but another person whispered that it’s all just street meat. i’m not sure which to believe. maybe it’s a good thing? maybe not.

i just checked and it’s 25.58 degrees, which is like the perfect temperature for a sweaty walk. or a nap. i took the latter.

i’m a digital nomad by choice, so i’d recommend this place if you’re into that. but don’t expect anything too organized. it’s messy, but that’s part of the charm.
