raipur: where the heat is on and the photos are free
so i'm in raipur, and let me tell you, it's hot. i just checked the weather and it's holding steady at 25.6°C, so if you're into that kind of heat, you're in luck. feels like 25.05, whatever that means.
if you get restless, bilaspur and durg are only a couple of hours away by car, so you can escape if needed.
as a freelance photographer, i'm always on the hunt for the next shot. and raipur has some hidden gems. but then again, what do i know? i'm just a guy with a camera.
someone told me that the main market is a goldmine for street photography, but watch out for the security guards. they don't like the camera.
i also heard a rumor that the museum here has an amazing collection of tribal art, but it's only open on odd days of the month? that's what a local warned me over a chai.
here's a map of the area if you want to explore:
and some shots i took (or at least, the vibe of the place):
but wait, what about those numbers? 1259005 and 1356458234? no idea, maybe they are some kind of code or a reference to a local event? i tried asking around but everyone just shrugged.
if you're looking for places to eat, check out this place on TripAdvisor and a popular eatery on Yelp. also, there's a local photography group on Facebook that meets every sunday at the park. for more about raipur, check out the local tourism board.
a local told me that the best light for shooting the city is at 4:30 pm, but then again, he was also trying to sell me a lens.
so yeah, raipur. it's okay. i got some shots. the heat is a bit much, but what can you do?
