port moresby mess: a digital nomad’s sweaty sketch

i just rolled into port moresby after a week of chasing gigs in sydney, the air feels thick like a wet towel and the sky hangs low with that lazy grey that makes you question if you left your sunglasses at home or if theyre just hiding behind the clouds. i checked the weather on my phone and it's...well, you know the drill-hot enough to make your laptop sweat, hope you enjoy that kind of sticky heat.

i grabbed a coconut from a stall near the market and the vendor swore that the best place to catch sunrise is behind the old lighthouse, though i heard that the lighthouse is now a makeshift karaoke bar for fishermen on fridays. if the town feels too quiet, a quick hop over to the neighboring hills brings you to bustling markets and hidden waterfalls where you can wash off the sweat and maybe find a stray guitar pick.

someone told me that the coffee shop on corner street serves a brew that’ll make you question your life choices, but another local warned me that the wifi there cuts out exactly when you’re in the middle of a zoom call-classic tropical irony. i decided to test it myself and ended up uploading a blurry vlog of a street performer juggling fire while a choir of cicadas provided the soundtrack.

i spent the afternoon editing photos at a coworking spot that looks more like a garage with fairy lights, overheard a drunk traveler say that the best night market is hidden behind the railway tracks, and apparently you can get grilled banana wrapped in bacon for less than a dollar-don’t quote me on that, but my stomach agreed.

that’s the gist-sweat, strangers, and a soundtrack that never quite stops. if you’re hunting for a place where the internet is as unreliable as the weather, you’ve found it. stay weird, stay wet.
