Oslo: Where the Street Art Shivers Like My Bank Account
so i land in oslo dragging my spray cans through this soupy mist that feels like breathing lukewarm aquarium water. the app says it's currently doing that whole 'frozen breath' thing, so pack layers if you're into that. found myself in grünerløkka where some local tagged '3159016' and '1578937195' like it was a math problem i needed to solve. turns out it's just a bus route number and a timestamp but hey, art's subjective.
if you run out of inspiration, drøbak and moss are just a short drive away. though honestly? i've been stuck in this concrete maze for days. the humidity's making my stencils sag like bad memories.
someone told me that the street art here is either dead or underground, depending who you ask. but then again, that same person was wearing socks with sandals, so take it with a grain of salt.
hitting up the usual spots:
- *akerselva riverbanks are surprisingly resilient to frostbite
- youngstorget's political murals hit different when your fingers are numb
- that wall near platous gate* keeps getting buffed faster than i can refill my coffee
i heard that the city council is trying to 'clean up' some of the more controversial murals. which is a fancy way of saying they're painting over them with beige. so if you see something you like, take a quick pic, you know?
oh, and the food? stumbled into this joint called torggata mat & øl that serves these meatballs that taste like nordic hugs. though rumor has it the best street eats are hiding in vegas bar's basement. haven't found it yet but the hunt's half the fun.
this city's got this weird energy where everything's either wrapped in wool or covered in tags. tried painting near the opera house but got shooed away by security who looked like they'd rather wrestle a polar bear.
then there's this other rumor...
i heard that the best street art isn't even in the city anymore, it's out in the suburbs. like, you have to take a ferry to get there. but then again, the ferry ride is supposed to be an experience in itself.
so yeah, if you're into street art and don't mind your paint freezing mid-spray, oslo's got its own thing going. check out oslo street art tours if you want a guide because honestly, without one you'll just wander around like i did.
and if you get bored, there's always the munch museum because, well, edvard munch. the scream's iconic even if it's not spray paint. though i swear that painting looks colder than this weather.
calling it quits for now. my fingers are so numb i can barely hold a can. hope you enjoy the mist.
