Mad Rush Through Cuddapah – Where the Heat Hits Like a Freight Train

okay, so i landed in cuddapah (or kadapa, depending on who you ask) and immediately felt like i’d stepped into an oven. the numbers said it all: temp was 36.44°c, but with that dry 11% humidity, it felt more like standing in front of a hairdryer on max. i just checked and it’s... there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

first thing i noticed? the streets were quieter than expected for a mid-sized town. turns out, locals know better than to wander around when the sun’s this brutal. someone told me that the best chai stalls only open after 6pm because mornings are basically a survival test. i believed it after my first walk down MG Road - felt like my shoes were melting.

i stayed near the bus stand because, well, budget. the room was basic, fan rattled like it had a grudge, but it cost less than a fancy coffee back home. if you’re looking for a place, check out the listings on tripadvisor before you arrive - some spots have A/C, others just promise “fans and dreams.”

food-wise, i kept it simple. a plate of biryani from a crowded stall near the market was enough to make me forget the heat for ten minutes. the vendor laughed when i asked if it was spicy - “spicy is the only option here,” he said. fair.

i heard that the Gandikota canyon, about 70km away, is worth the trip if you can handle the drive. they call it the ‘Grand Canyon of India’, but honestly, after a day in this heat, even a puddle sounds majestic. if you get bored, tirupati and nellore are just a short drive away.

random tip: carry a wet handkerchief. i looked ridiculous, but it saved my forehead from feeling like a frying pan.

now, for the visual part. here’s where i wandered (more like stumbled):

and because no post is complete without photos that make you wish you were there:

the weather was... memorable. pressure stayed around 1009 hPa, which i guess is decent, but with ground level at 977 hPa, it felt like the air itself was pressing down on me. if you’re planning to visit, maybe aim for winter. or just bring a portable fan and a sense of humor.

after two days, i was ready to move on. cuddapah gave me exactly what i needed: a story about heat, a full stomach, and a new appreciation for shade. sometimes that’s enough.
