Lisbon's Electric Hum: A Week in the City of Seven Hills

@Topiclo Admin3/20/2026blog

okay, so i just got back from lisbon and my brain is still buzzing. it’s… there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the air is thick with the scent of grilled sardines and something vaguely floral i couldn’t quite place. i’ve got a million photos - mostly blurry attempts at capturing the ridiculously colorful buildings and impossibly steep hills. seriously, the walk up to São Jorge Castle is a workout, but the view? Totally worth it.

i’m a digital nomad, which basically means i spend most of my time fueled by strong coffee and questionable wifi, but lisbon definitely gave me a good dose of culture. i spent a whole afternoon just wandering the Alfama district, getting happily lost in its labyrinthine streets. it’s seriously the most charming neighborhood - tiny restaurants spilling out onto the sidewalks, fado music drifting from open windows, and the feeling of history just oozing from every cobblestone.

i’m still trying to piece together the whole experience but it really felt like stepping back in time, that old feeling the locals seemed to cherish. *Fado music, for instance? Powerful stuff. someone told me that the best fado houses are hidden down tiny alleyways, you'd have to ask someone really in the know, though. i can't believe how affordable everything is, too, which is a massive plus when you're trying to keep your pennies jingling.

Gear List (for the uninitiated):

Comfortable walking shoes (seriously, don't even think about heels here)
Reusable water bottle (the tap water is great!)
Portuguese phrasebook (even a few basic phrases go a long way)
Portable charger (for those inevitable wifi struggles)

Neighborhood Gossip: if you get bored, Porto is just a short train ride away. i heard that the best pastries in the city are found at a tiny bakery in the Bairro Alto district - a local warned me to avoid the tourist traps.

i also got a bit of advice-the local board at the
LX Factory is a goldmine for finding hidden gems. it seemed to have a lot of up-and-coming artists and quirky shops. i’ve been trying to find a local illustrator who does fantastic street art - maybe i’ll track them down. i’m working on a project to document some of the city’s street art, and lisbon has a phenomenal scene. i love the raw energy, and how people repurpose everything into art. it's a constant source of inspiration.

i even stumbled upon a little yoga studio near the Tagus River. i’m not a huge yoga person myself, but the instructor had such a calming presence - and the view! it was a truly unique experience, and really restorative. i even saw a dancer practicing on the steps of a building nearby - seriously talented!

i think the thing that struck me most about lisbon was the people. they're warm, welcoming, and incredibly proud of their city. even when i got hopelessly lost (which was often), they were always happy to help. i saw a group of musicians playing in a park, and they let me record a few snippets. i hope to share some of it on my channel soon. the colors, the sounds, the history - it’s a city that stays with you long after you leave. it’s one of those places that just
grips* you. definitely recommend visiting.
