Lisbon’s a Blur: Rain, Pastel Buildings, and Seriously Strong Coffee
okay, so i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and the sheer volume of pastel buildings. i landed in lisbon yesterday, and honestly, it’s… a lot. like, a beautiful, chaotic, slightly damp lot. the air smells like salt and something vaguely floral, which is a nice change from the usual airport exhaust. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the pressure is 1025, humidity 78, sea level 1025, ground level 1015 - apparently, it’s a particularly stable day for atmospheric weirdness.
my flight was delayed, naturally. and then i spent an hour trying to decipher the metro system. it’s like a labyrinth designed by a sadist. but hey, at least i got some decent photos. i’m aiming for that ‘effortless cool’ look, you know? the one where you look like you’re totally in the zone, but you’re actually just desperately trying to remember where you parked.
i’m staying in Alfama, which is… intense. it’s basically a giant, winding staircase leading to nowhere. and the sounds! oh god, the sounds. Fado music spilling out of tiny bars, the clatter of plates, people shouting in Portuguese - it’s a sensory overload in the best possible way. i overheard some drunk advice at a tiny place called ‘O Velho Eurico’ - someone told me that the best pastel de nata are found down a ridiculously narrow alleyway near the cathedral. seriously, it’s like a secret society of pastry lovers.
Speaking of pastries, the coffee here is next level. i’m talking dark, rich, intensely flavored. i’m currently nursing a galão at a place called ‘The Beans’ - it’s tiny, crammed with locals, and the barista looks like he hasn’t slept in three days. he just grunted at me and handed me a cup. that’s lisbon for you.
Here’s the gear list, because someone needs to keep track of this madness:
Camera: Sony a7iii (obviously) - gotta capture the light, ya know?
*Lenses: 24-70mm, 50mm f/1.4 - the essentials. And a cheap fisheye for the weird angles.
*Notebook & Pen: For scribbling down random thoughts and directions (which i inevitably get lost with).
*Portable Charger: Because my phone dies faster than my enthusiasm.
*Comfortable Shoes: Seriously, you’ll be walking. A lot.
I also found this amazing vintage shop near the Time Out Market - ‘Lost & Found’. They had the coolest embroidered jackets and old vinyl records. It’s a total treasure trove.
Someone told me that the LX Factory is worth a visit - it’s an old industrial complex that’s been converted into shops, restaurants, and art studios. Apparently, it’s a hipster haven. i’m not sure i’m that cool, but i’m willing to check it out.
If you get bored, Porto is just a short drive away. Seriously, it’s a beautiful city with a ton of history. I heard that the Ribeira district is particularly charming.
I’m thinking of checking out a Fado show tonight. Apparently, it’s a deeply emotional experience. I’m not crying, you’re crying. Just saying. I need to find a good TripAdvisor guide for that.
Okay, I’m officially exhausted. Time for another galão and a nap. Maybe i’ll even attempt to navigate the metro again. wish me luck.
Pro-Tip:* Don’t trust the pigeons. Seriously. They’re plotting something.
