Lisbon: Where Coffee and Cobblestones Collide

okay so i’m standing in lisbon with sweat trickling down my back because someone decided 18.47°C is sweater weather? nope. feels like 17.91°C but my body’s staging a rebellion against the humidity at 59%. pressure’s at 1016 though-whatever that means, probably why my ears keep popping.

this city’s a maze of alleyways that smell like garlic and regret, and the locals? bless their hearts, they walk these hills like it’s flat ground. i’ve been hunting for decent espresso for three days now. found a place in alfama where the barista looked at my order like i’d asked for unicorn tears-turns out they don’t do oat milk. sigh.

someone told me that the custard tarts in belém are basically liquid gold, but then i overheard a drunk guy shouting that the real magic’s in alfama’s hidden bakeries. conspiracy theory or truth? jury’s still out.

if you need a break from the chaos, cascais is a short train ride away-sea air and less stair-climbing. i tried it. came back craving lisbon’s gritty charm.

"if you see a café with a line longer than the que for the elevator, skip it. go where the old men shout at football matches."

"the tram 28? cute. until it gets stuck. then it’s a 2-hour traffic jam with accordion music."

"that castle? climb it at sunset. the view’s worth the calf-burn."

i just checked the weather and it’s… breezy enough to make you question your life choices, hope you like that kind of thing. humidity’s clinging to you like a jealous ex.

the tiles here? everywhere. blue and white geometric patterns on walls that’ve seen more drama than a telenovela. found a café in chiado where the tiles spelled out ‘ça va bien?’-which they definitely weren’t serving.

"that fado singer? she’s not crying. she’s channeling your ex’s lawyer."

heard a warning that the pastéis de nata at tourist spots are mass-produced. seek the tiny place with the handwritten sign and no english menu. or don’t. your call.

for real coffee intel: lisbon coffee scene or local food boards.
