lilongwe lilongwe

lilongwe is a city that feels like a mix of old and new, where the awnings sometimes wear a slight patina and the buses hum with a quiet rhythm. I’ve been navigating without a car for a while now, and it’s surprising how much you adapt when you stop relying on traffic signs. The streets here are sharp, but they keep a kind of order that you don’t expect in a place this size.

the most surprising part is how clear the landscape gets when the morning fog lifts. People walk side by side in groups, not chasing each other, which is odd in a city like this. I noticed that the coffee shops pop up fast, and they always have a sign saying “free” on the menu. It’s funny, because you think a lack of cars means more freedom, but it really just means you’re paying attention to what’s available.

what I’ve learned is that Liwa’s weather changes like a mood, shifting from light rain in the morning to sunny afternoons by the afternoon. That’s why I keep packing an umbrella, even when I’m sure the city will be perfect for hiking. The heat in the evening is intense, but the streets stay cool, a little bit thanks to the tall buildings blocking the sun.

i’ve met more locals here than I thought possible. They’re not all friendly, but they seem more interesting than most city dwellers you’d find. There’s a sense of community that comes from sharing space, even when you’re driving. it’s strange how strangers can become neighbors in just a short walk.

navigating without a car feels like solving a puzzle, but you learn the patterns slowly. sometimes you end up in the market without a map, and that’s when you realize how local the city really is. i still get lost sometimes, but it’s part of the charm.

lilongwe has its quirks, but it’s a place that rewards patience and curiosity. i don’t know if I’ll stay long-term, but right now, it feels like the right step for a new chapter. the busy streets and the friendly faces keep my day interesting, even if it’s a bit chaotic.

the city isn’t perfect, but it’s worth the effort.
every detail, no matter how small, adds up to something real.
this city has a rhythm that changes with time, and that’s what makes it live.
