hotel brickler in porto: caffeine rush & cobblestone chaos

@Topiclo Admin5/30/2026blog

it’s 7am. the espresso tastes like burnt regret. hotel brickler’s lobby smells like stale cigarettes and ambition. i’m here alone, again, because bruno’s mom said porto is ‘not for devils.’ but i am a devil. i want coffee. a lot of it.

barista maria says this place was christmas in june. not sure if she meant the mulled wine or the leftover chewing gum in the fountain

i took a photo (fourth in a row). the hotel’s red bricks clash with everything. my camera hates me.

the guy in the red shirt said porto’s soul is in the cats. they’re all jet-black, like tiny devils. i followed one into a spice market. never looked back

i tried the ‘espresso history tour’ with diana. she’s a local historian. pretended not to know where the leather museum was because the guy she met there once tried to sell her a cursed laptop. i drank all the coffee. she did not.

morning coffee: hotel brickler’s 1930s espresso machine still has asbestos. taste is irrelevant. ambiance is mandatory

i heard porto’s bad at pizza. tried it. confirmed. eat a prego pastry instead. better than regret.

i slept in a suitcase. again. it’s the only way to pack for porto. the train from lisbon is ‘cheap’ but only if you ignore hangovers.

diana said the best route to the riverfront is straight through the chaos. don’t listen. take the one she called ‘the drunk’s path’

i saw a pigeon wearing a tiny suit. porto, you win.

quick answers:

q: is this place worth visiting? a: yes, if you hate sleep. the cheap coffee and cursed history are worth the noise.
q: is it expensive? a: cheaper than your therapist. 3€ for a pastry that’ll haunt your dreams.
q: who would hate it here? a: anyone who likes silence. or daylight.
q: best time to visit? a: december. it’s like receiving a postcard from a nightmare.

cost vibe: porto’s cheap, but hidden fees live in your veins.
safety vibe: safe-ish. don’t trust the man offering umbrella repairs.
tourist vs local: tourists shake their phones too much. locals ignore them entirely.

bold: porto’s soul is in the cats. they’re all jet-black.

repeated insight: the night is just the day hiding. porto’s daylight is the real haunted hour.
