Denver, CO: The Mile-High City That Won't Let You Sleep

okay, so here i am in denver, co, and lemme tell you-this place is wild. i landed with a vague plan to 'check out the mountains' and ended up staying a week because, well, why not? the weather right now is 13.41°c but feels like 11.54°c, so yeah, bring a jacket. it's not exactly tropical, but it's perfect for wandering around without sweating through your shirt.

i just checked and it's crisp and kinda dry there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. humidity's at 28%, so your skin might thank you or hate you-i'm still deciding.

anyway, the first thing i did was hit up *union station. it's this gorgeous old building that's now a hotel, bar, and general hangout spot. i overheard someone say the cocktails there are 'life-changing,' but i think they were just drunk. still, worth a try.

if you get bored, boulder and colorado springs are just a short drive away. i didn't make it to either, but i heard boulder's got this whole 'hippie mountain town' vibe that's hard to resist.

now, about the food-oh man. i stumbled into this tiny spot called
sushi den after a local told me it was 'the best sushi in denver, no cap.' i was skeptical, but holy moly, it was legit. fresh, creative, and not overpriced.

and then there's the
denver art museum. i'm not usually a museum guy, but this one's got this crazy architecture that looks like it's melting. someone told me that the exhibits change so often, you could visit every month and see something new. i believe it.

i also took a walk through
cheesman park, which is apparently built over an old cemetery. spooky, right? i heard rumors that people have seen ghosts there. i didn't, but i also wasn't looking too hard.

here's the thing about denver: it's not trying too hard. it's chill, it's artsy, and it's got this weird mix of outdoor adventure and urban cool. you can go from hiking a trail to sipping craft beer in under an hour.

i will say, though, the altitude hits you like a truck if you're not used to it. i felt like i'd run a marathon after climbing a single flight of stairs. so, pace yourself, okay?

and if you're into craft beer (who isn't?),
great divide brewing co.* is a must. i heard from a bartender that their 'yeti' stout is 'the best thing to happen to beer since hops.' i'm not arguing.

anyway, here's a map so you don't get lost like i did:

and because no blog post is complete without pics, here are some from unsplash:

denver, you sneaky little city. i'll be back.
