Charminar Sketches & Sticky Heat: An Illustrator's Hyderabad Mess
just got back from hyderabad and my sketchbook smells like curry, sweat, and charcoal. my fingers are permanently stained with banyan tree sap and my tote bag has more holes than a sieve after navigating those chaotic streets. i checked the weather today and it's... well, it's that kind of thick, humid 27.89°C that clings to you like a second layer of skin, feels like 29.08°C because the air itself is breathing down your neck. hope you enjoy that kind of sauna vibe. if you get bored staring at my scrawled scribbles, secunderabad and warangal are practically next door-short scooter rides away when your brain needs new visuals. the map below shows where i got lost and found inspiration:
someone overheard at golconda fort that the charminar has a sketchy ghost artist who steals your pencils if you render it too well. my graphite vanished mid-draw-still suspicious.
local drunkard at a corner tea stall warned me: never sit under the charminar arches at sunset. the pigeons dive-bomb your sketchbook with vengeance. true story-my paper got bird-bombed.
heard from a street vendor near laad bazaar that the best street art lives in the alley behind sultan bazaar, but only after midnight when the cops are asleep. i got yelled at at 2pm for using chalk-apparently itās āpublic property disturbanceā. whatevs.
for more tourist traps, check tripadvisorās hyderabad page or yelpās art galleries. my sketchbookās cover is warped from humidity, but my lines are getting bolder. next stop: drawing the *secunderabad railway station* at dawn. pray i donāt get arrested.
